Even British television has gotten into the act by stressing that this is a good approach for women since they are allowed to be in control and given more power during the early stages of a relationship. It also gives them the anonymity of being on the Internet. Others have stressed the advantage to shy people in finding a mate. While such people might not want to approach someone in a bar they are free to do so with comfort on the Internet.
There is a drawback of course and that is that you cannot no for sure if the person on the other end is telling you the truth. They might be married, in jail, abusive, etc. They might not be posting their own picture. If you do try this approach to dating you need to know that it will be necessary to problem for information over the phone, meeting in public places, and, possibly a private investigation.
So in the end it is alright to use online dating if you act wisely and with much caution.
